Deadlines for voter registration and requesting an absentee ballot are coming up.
Jamaal Bowman for Congress

John,

The New York primaries are only 35 days away, and we want to make sure you have everything you need to cast your vote for Jamaal Bowman on — or before — Election Day, June 23.

Here are some important deadlines for you to know:

  • Deadline to register to vote: May 29
In New York state, voter registrations (online or postmarked) must be received by the Board of Elections by May 29. Due to the coronavirus, we recommend registering to vote online, which you can do here.

  • Deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail or online: June 16
The government is planning on mailing out application forms for absentee ballots to all households in New York. However, you don't have to wait — in the Bronx and Westchester, you can request an absentee ballot online. Learn more here.

  • Deadline to apply in person or to send in your absentee ballot: June 22
Once you send in your request for an absentee ballot, the Board of Elections will mail you the absentee ballot. You have to send it in the day before Election day at the latest — all absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 22.

  • Deadline to vote in person: June 23
While we are strongly encouraging voters to vote absentee, polls will still be open for in-person voting on Election Day, June 23. Because of COVID-19, we don't recommend voting in person if you can avoid it, but we understand that everyone's circumstances are different.

And, John — whether you live in NY-16 or not — I can't stress enough how important it is that we all exercise our right to vote if we are able to. Taking a few minutes right now to register to vote (or check your registration), request an absentee ballot, and think about voting is so important.

And while voting is already a confusing process, it can be even more confusing this year. If you're a voter in NY-16, you can always check our website's Vote by Mail page if you want the latest information on how to request a ballot and make sure your voice is heard in the primary.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for making sure you're ready to vote.

In solidarity,

Bilal Tahir, Field Director
Bowman for Congress

P.S. If you don't live in New York (or do) and want to spread the word about voting and this crucial primary, please consider chipping in a few bucks to our campaign. Every dollar raised will help us spread the word about Jamaal to as many voters in NY-16 as we possibly can. Thanks!
