A new case study from Work for America and the 5BORO Institute explores how this transparency tool can help City leaders address vacancies, cut overtime costs, prevent workforce shortages and – most importantly – improve services for New Yorkers.
As noted in their case study, our dashboard can serve as a model for cities beyond New York, describing it as a “powerful model for cities nationwide to rethink workforce management.”
The ability to visualize City staffing data in near real-time has an important impact. It makes it much easier visualize trends and identify changes. For example, our Office used the dashboard to identify that high attrition rates at HPD delayed affordable housing production. This insight led to a with targeted recommendations for HPD staff development and retention strategies.
Amidst a housing and affordability crisis in our city, staffing challenges at City agencies shouldn’t slow us down or affect services. I’m proud of how our office is contributing to stronger City management through our dynamic transparency tools, and we’ll continue working toward a better-run City that serves all New Yorkers.
