Project 2025 is a serious threat to our rights and freedoms — including the right to vote.
In its pages are plans to criminalize the voting process, allow the spreading of election disinformation, give the federal government access to state voter rolls, and weaken the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965.
Signed at the height of the civil rights movement, the VRA prohibited racial discrimination in voting. Its passage strengthened our nation’s democracy, and has helped combat voter suppression in the years since. Project 2025 would weaken its enforcement by stripping the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, which defends Americans of color in civil rights cases.

Project 2025 could take us backwards and see voters denied their rights. Jim Crow-era laws like poll taxes and literacy tests were designed to keep Black Americans from going to the polls, and Republicans are building on that legacy with new voter suppression laws in states across the country.
Over the past decade, voting rights have continued to come under attack, and anti-democracy politicians at all levels of government have worked to dismantle the VRA’s protections. Eleven years ago, with the Shelby County v. Holder ruling, the Supreme Court found important parts of the VRA unconstitutional — ushering in a flood of voter suppression laws and practices targeting Black and brown voters.
We need to be prepared for legislation that seeks to threaten the freedom to vote at the state and federal level. Your gift of $25 or more today will make a real difference in protecting the freedom to vote.
With your help, we’re preparing for threats to our rights — thank you.
