Hey John,

In the run up to this year’s election, we talked a lot about how every little bit matters — every donation matters, every call to a voter matters, every time you share information with a friend matters — because some of the most critical races come down to the slimmest margins of votes.

We weren’t exaggerating. This year, races at all levels and in every corner of the country were decided by razor-thin margins.

It’s made national news that in California, not one but TWO races for U.S. Congress were decided by less than 1,000 votes — combined! Democrat Adam Gray won his race by 187 votes and flipped CA13. And Democrat Derek Tran won his race by 653 votes and flipped CA45.

Races that typically fall under most people’s radar — races like the ones that supporters like you helped support — also came down to the wire:

In North Carolina, Democracy Defender Justice Allison Riggs won her state supreme court race by just 734 votes — out of more than 5.5 million votes.

In Oregon, Democrat Lesly Munoz won State House District 22 by just 161 votes out of flipping the district.

In Colorado, the race for state house district 16 was finally just called last week. Republican challenger Rebecca Keltie won the seat by just 3 votes — with this flip, Democrats will lose their supermajority in the state house.

And in Montana, Democrat Scott Rosenzweig won state house district 57 by just 17 votes.

Seventeen.Votes.

These results are all the proof you need that every vote truly matters. And that means every effort to help educate and mobilize voters — big or small — also truly matters.

So today, I’m asking you to forward this email to a friend. Ask them to take a look at some of these close outcomes and get ready for the work ahead. Then, when it’s time to marshal our networks to protect fair maps, combat gerrymandering and safeguard our democracy, they’ll understand exactly why we do this work.
