Ever since Citizens United, corporations and the ultra-wealthy have been free to meddle in elections and swing the balance of power to their whims – no matter how unpopular. And this year’s elections were the most brazen yet.
For a myriad of reasons, too many Californians have lost faith in our state’s ability to be responsive and deliver results, and these displays of ostentatious wealth don’t help appearances that our leaders are fighting for us.
We must repair that trust. And that starts with ending the corrupting influence of unfettered, private money in politics.
