Team,
First, I want to start by saying thank you. Thank you for stepping up time and again to support Democratic candidates in Washington state and across the country these past two years. Not every race turned out how we hoped – far from it – but the progress we did make was because of YOU.
Like I imagine so many of you were, I was deeply disappointed our country did not elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to the White House. It was a hard-fought campaign, but we came up short. In the months ahead, we will need to reflect carefully not just on how we hold the incoming Trump administration accountable but also on how we win 2026 and 2028 with a hopeful vision for the future.
I don’t have to tell you all the threat a Donald Trump presidency is to our economy, reproductive rights, workers' rights, health care, and so much more. But know that I will fight every day in the Senate for the policies and values the people of Washington state care about – and so will the slate of strong progressive champions you worked hard to elect in our state.
The work you all did to make sure we have leaders in Washington state who will be a safeguard against the incoming Trump administration will be more important than ever in the next four years. That includes sending my colleague Maria Cantwell back to join me in the U.S. Senate, electing Bob Ferguson as the next governor, Nick Brown as our next attorney general, and sending Emily Randall to D.C. to represent Washington’s 6th Congressional District. Reps. Kim Schrier and Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez both won tough reelection campaigns, and Democrats grew our majority in the House and Senate in Olympia.
I’m excited to have Tammy Baldwin, Jacky Rosen, and so many more of my colleagues back with me in the Senate – and to welcome new Democrats from across the country like Michigan’s Elissa Slotkin, Arizona’s Ruben Gallego, Maryland’s Angela Alsobrooks, and a handful of other incredible new leaders who I’m excited to work with in the new Congress. We knew that this past election would be an uphill battle for Democrats nationwide. It can be hard to feel like the contributions or time spent volunteering makes a difference. But we did the work, and Democrats won tough Senate races in states Trump won. That’s thanks to you!
So as this year comes to a close, take time to reflect and rest – and know I value your input at this critical time. Then let’s get to work holding the incoming Trump administration accountable and protecting women, families, and the future of our country – together.
Thank you for your continued support,
Patty Murray
