Hi there —
One of my top priorities as New York’s first mom Governor is making sure moms and their babies have the best outcome.
That’s why I’m proud of New York’s first-in-the-nation paid prenatal leave program, which begins on January 1, 2025.
At my State of the State address last year, I fought to ensure every mom in New York has fully covered paid prenatal leave so she can make important appointments.
I heard from countless moms who had to skip appointments for fear of taking time off of work.
No pregnant New Yorker should have to choose between their paycheck and their checkups. Our administration took action to change that.
New York will be the first state in our nation to require employers to give time off to their pregnant employees. This will help over 136,000 pregnant women not have to worry about losing money to attend those vital appointments for their well-being and their baby’s health.

We're leading the way to make life a little easier for working families — thank you for your continued support of my administration’s work.
Ever upwards,
Governor Kathy Hochul
