Dear John,
Every parent remembers that first moment: holding a tiny, precious life and feeling the overwhelming weight of responsibility. For many new parents, that moment brings not just joy, but fear – the fear of making mistakes, of not knowing what to do.
This was Tamera's story, until she found the support that transformed her journey into parenthood.
"I was terrified of babies," Tamera recalls. "I was afraid of dropping them. Making a mistake. Anything like that."
But at eight months pregnant, Tamera connected with Start Early's Healthy Parents & Babies program, and everything began to change.
Within days, she was matched with a doula who became a steady guide through pregnancy and early parenthood. "We talked at least once a week and went over the birth plan," Tamera shares. "She was there when the baby was born, and she also came and did home visits with us when we came home. It was amazing."
This individual attention is paired with carefully designed activities that strengthen crucial early connections. Through guided parent-child interactions, families practice everything from simple activities like finger plays and singing to deeper emotional bonding exercises. These conscious discipline activities help parents understand their child's development while building secure attachments that shape future relationships.
Each week brought new learning opportunities, with experts bringing guidance right to their door. "The love and care was apparent from day one," Tamera shares. "She came with lesson plans, parenting tips, recipes - anything that I needed. Any question I had, she answered."
The program's focus on whole-family engagement helped Dequann discover his own path to confident parenting. The weekly visits became a family touchpoint, where both parents learned and grew together. "The key to being a healthy parent and having a healthy child is consistency," he reflects. "This program will definitely let you know that you need to take it slow, and take everything they're saying into consideration. Because it's going to help you out in the long run."
Today, Tamera and Dequann's story represents the transformative power of early support. Their journey from uncertainty to confidence shows how the right guidance can change not just one family's future, but create lasting impact across generations.
