Trial Court Recommends Melissa Lucio’s Conviction and Death Sentence Be Overturned

On Oct. 16, the judge who presided over the trial of Melissa Lucio — the Honorable Arturo Nelson — found that Ms. Lucio “is actually innocent; she did not kill her daughter,” Mariah Alvarez. Judge Nelson agreed that at her original trial prosecutors suppressed evidence supporting Melissa’s defense that her daughter died after an accidental fall, meaning Melissa was sentenced to death for a crime that never happened. The judge has recommended that her conviction and sentence be overturned, and the case is now in the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals for a final decision.

After 32 Years in Prison, Danny Davis’ Murder Conviction Is Finally Vacated

On Nov. 12, we celebrated Danny Davis’ return home after more than 32 years in prison for a murder that DNA evidence proves he did not commit. At the time of his conviction, Danny was just 20 years old. Now 52, Danny is finally free and will celebrate this upcoming holiday season at home with his family.

Michigan Innocence Clinic [[link removed]] client LaVone Hill was convicted in 2002 of two murders he did not commit, in part due to police corruption. After 22 years, a judge has vacated his double murder conviction and sentence, providing Hill the relief he has been seeking.

On Oct. 31, Ricky Lee Webb, represented by the Tennessee Innocence Project [[link removed], was exonerated for a rape and murder he did not commit. After spending nearly 47 years wrongfully imprisoned, all charges have been dismissed, marking a monumental victory for justice.
