Anna Mockel experienced the consequences of YouTube's harmful algorithm first-hand. The 18-year-old mental health advocate from Maryland shared that YouTube had been recommending her eating disorder content since she was 14 years old. This dangerous content on YouTube kept her in the mindset “that [anorexia] wasn't a problem because so many other people online were doing the same thing." Teenage girls deserve better. The window is closing to challenge YouTube to fix their algorithm and stop hurting teen girls. Change must happen now. Are you with us?
