As we approach the end of the year, many of us are bracing for the inauguration. It's impossible to forget the sheer chaos that marked the first Trump administration, and even more, the cruelty.

But in looking back, it is just as important to remember that as horrific as Trump's policies were, the public reaction was powerful. Hundreds of thousands of people of all walks of life showed up at airports, refused to look away from images of children taken from their parents, and defended DACA all the way to the Supreme Court. In short, we fought back.

Now, with the incoming administration proposing even more extreme and far reaching policies, our collective action is more important than ever. Trump and his allies have made their intentions for the next term clear: mass deportations, ending birthright citizenship, denying public education to immigrant children, building internment camps, and using the military to hunt down immigrants. These policies will shatter families, disrupt our communities, and inflict untold harm on countless lives.

Friend, while the fear and uncertainty that gripped us then have resurfaced — so has the resilience and solidarity we demonstrated ahead of and during Trump’s first term.

Whether it’s through litigation, political advocacy, or state and local coordination, NILC is ready to fiercely defend the rights of immigrants across this country. For over 40 years, NILC has stood steadfast in this fight, and with your continued support, we will rise to the challenge once more.
