Scallops

Good afternoon,

There are tagged scallops in Jericho Bay this season that may be either drag or dive caught. See charts below.

Tagged Scallop

If you catch a legal sized tagged scallop:

* Shuck it, then save both shells with the tag still attached.
* Write down lat/long, date caught and depth OR Take photo of Lat/long, date caught and depth!
* Call or text Carl Huntsberger at Maine DMR - 207-350-6004 OR, pass over shells and info to your local Patrol Officer

If you have a sublegal sized tagged scallop:

* Write down the tag number, OR take a photo of the scallop before release!
* Write down lat/long, date caught and depth OR Take photo of the Lat/long, date caught and depth!
* Call or text Carl Huntsberger at Maine DMR - 207-350-6004

Carl has designed a new scallop science hat as a finder's fee for tagged scallops! And, a raffle for $100!

These tagged scallops, especially in the Jericho Bay area, will provide data towards answering the question: "One year closure or two year closure for rotational areas??". So please keep an eye out, so these tagged scallops can help resolve the big question everyone is asking about!

Chart of release areas below, shown with a star. Jericho release was April 2023 and Vinalhaven release was June 2020.
