When Mary, a 79-year-old widow, found herself without food and no way to get help, she didn't know where to turn. Her daughter, Mary's sole support, had been deployed overseas. While Mary's SNAP benefits once provided some relief, navigating reapplying for benefits on her own became overwhelming.
