Friend,

Yesterday morning I joined faith leaders from across Georgia by virtual press conference to support Teresa Tomlinson’s U.S. Senate campaign. With early voting now underway, I wanted to tell you why I and so many others are making the call to vote for Teresa in this June 9th primary election.

I’m a Teresa Tomlinson fan because of my wife, first of all. When Carolyn first told me that I was going to vote for Teresa, I was fascinated by her eight years as a mayor — the first woman ever to be elected in Columbus. Mayors know what it is to do everything, from picking up your garbage to having water to wash your face in the morning. I’ve had the honor of representing Georgia in Congress and the United States in the United Nations, and I can tell you that serving as mayor of Atlanta for eight years was the best job I had.

Then I met Teresa and heard her tell her story. She is an example of the fact that you can start anywhere and go everywhere in life if you work hard and devote yourself to others. Teresa’s integrity, strong moral and ethical character, and her devotion to serving others are the qualities that have resonated with me and leaders of faith across our state. From taking the underdog fights in federal litigation, to governing as a mayor, and continuing to stand up for justice and equality today, I believe that Teresa not only will be ready to serve us on Day One, but will do so with honor and distinction.
