Team Ross here with an urgent message.
Today, the North Carolina State House will vote on whether or not to override Governor Cooper’s veto of S.B. 382. If you haven’t heard of S.B. 382, it’s likely due to state Republicans’ careful masking of their true intentions with this legislation.
At its surface, S.B. 382 will direct an additional $227 million toward relief efforts from Hurricane Helene. But, legislators from the west have raised concerns about how effective that funding would be.
At its core, S.B. 382 is designed to weaken the power of our governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and superintendent of public instruction — all of which were won by Democrats in 2024 — through a series of changes completely unrelated to hurricane relief efforts.
These changes have the potential to disenfranchise voters and set a disturbing precedent for the future of our state. We can not allow North Carolina Republicans to gut our state government and put the future of North Carolinians at risk simply because they did not see the results they wanted in the 2024 elections.
Will you sign our petition and stand with Governor Cooper today? We need 1,000 signatures by 12 p.m. to show Governor Cooper, Josh Stein, Rachel Hunt, Jeff Jackson, and Mo Green that Team Ross has their backs. [[link removed]]

In 2020, Deborah became the first Democrat in over a decade to be elected to represent North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional district. In her first term, eleven pieces of legislation she introduced were signed into law. These measures increased funding for sexual assault nurse examiners, enhanced judicial ethics and transparency, and bolstered North Carolina’s offshore wind energy potential. Deborah needs your support to continue the fight for fairness, equality, and progress. Let’s do this together.
