Hi John,

Governor Hochul has had months to sign critical child care bills that would make life easier for many working families across New York State. But here we are, in the final days of 2024, and she’s still holding them up.

As First Mom of New York, Governor Hochul ought to understand better than anyone how crucial child care is for families. So why is she forcing New Yorkers to hold their breath while families continue to struggle?

The governor has until Friday at 2pm to take action: to either sign or veto them. If Governor Hochul doesn’t sign them by then, we start this fight over from scratch in the new year.

Here’s what’s at stake:

  • A.4099-A/S.4667-A (Presumptive Eligibility) would give families quick access to child care assistance while their application is being processed - keeping parents working and ensuring children don’t lose continuity of care.

  • A.1303-A/S.4924-A (Ending the Minimum Earnings Requirement) would finally put an end to New York’s deeply unfair practice of denying child care assistance to parents whose earnings are below minimum wage - many of whom are small business owners or gig economy workers.

These bills passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, and the Governor’s delay is inexcusable. As a mother, she should understand how harmful this is for families in need of support.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Email Governor Hochul: Demand she sign these bills before the deadline Friday at 2pm.

  • Call the Governor’s Office: We’ve linked a slide with a script for what you might want to say.

  • Share This Message With Friends: Forward this email, encouraging others to take action. We need everyone’s support to make sure New York’s working families aren’t forgotten.

This is the last chance we have this calendar year to make sure that Governor Hochul prioritizes the families who are depending on these bills for their future. The clock is ticking. Act now before it’s too late.
