John,
Congressional Republicans are planning an outrageous attack on America’s healthcare safety net. Their scheme? To slash Medicaid[1]—a program millions of families rely on—just to hand $4.6 trillion in tax breaks mostly to the ultra-rich and big corporations.[2]
Close to 80 million people, including children and seniors, depend on Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for essential healthcare.[3] But the GOP’s proposed budget would make draconian cuts to these programs, jeopardizing lives to pay for massive tax breaks.
Here’s the reality: 63% of the benefits from making the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent would flow to the wealthiest 20% of Americans, while the poorest fifth would get just 1%. The richest 1% would get an average tax cut of over $25,000 in 2026—middle-class families would get less than $3 a day.[4] These tax cuts, one more version of failed “trickle down” economics, are nothing more than a handout to the rich at the expense of our most vulnerable neighbors.
Medicaid saves lives, supports economic mobility, and keeps millions of Americans healthy. Congress must prioritize families over billionaires. That’s why we’re calling on you to raise your voice and demand lawmakers reject these reckless cuts.
Tell Congress: Protect Medicaid and reject tax cuts for the rich.
Gutting Medicaid to fund tax cuts is not a new Republican idea, it’s been a part of their larger agenda for years, including new proposals like Project 2025, which would decimate healthcare access.
Extending the Trump tax scam would blow a massive hole in the federal budget, setting the stage for more devastating cuts to Social Security, SNAP, and other lifelines.
The numbers are staggering: Medicaid and CHIP provide health coverage to nearly 1 in 4 Americans. Cutting this program would disproportionately harm working-class families, people of color, and rural communities. Meanwhile, billionaires would walk away richer than ever.
We can’t allow Congress to play politics with our healthcare. We need a budget that reflects our values—one that protects families, strengthens communities, and ensures the wealthiest pay their fair share in taxes.
Take action now: Demand Congress protect Medicaid and reject tax breaks for billionaires.
Together, we can fight back against this harmful agenda and ensure no one loses access to healthcare because of partisan greed.
