Today on
Human Rights Day, and with 41 days remaining in his presidency, I am
urging President Biden to keep using his clemency power to issue pardons
to thousands who have been impacted by our unjust criminal system.

On a day that reminds us of our shared duty to uphold each other's dignity
and humanity, I’m uplifting this call from advocates across the country —
and am fighting to demonstrate just how many people are calling on him to
be compassionate and save lives. [ [link removed] ]I’m looking for 1,000 people to sign
our petition today, calling for President Biden to pardon those suffering
from the injustices of our legal system. Will you add your name to the
petition?

Add Your Name

President Biden has the authority right now to pardon those on death row,
those in federal custody with unjustified sentencing disparities (like for
marijuana possession), the elderly and chronically ill, women punished for
crimes of their abusers, and many, many more. People whose lives can be
changed forever by one stroke of a pen.

The death penalty, specifically, is a cruel punishment that has no place
in our society — and I’ve been fighting to end this horrific practice for
years. State-sanctioned murder is not justice, and President Biden has an
opportunity and an obligation to save lives.

We watched as the previous Trump administration executed 13 people on
federal death row, more than the total number of federal executions in the
last 60 years. And we know the incoming administration is poised to go on
another execution spree — expediting use of the federal death penalty is
written in the pages Project 2025.

President Biden has just recently used his clemency authority to pardon
his son in response to what he saw as an injustice of the legal system.
More must be done: He can honor a campaign promise and move us closer to
addressing mass incarceration and rectifying the harms of our criminal
legal system.

to sign our petition to help save lives.

Onward,

Ayanna
