MEET DIAMOND
Facing the imminent risk of losing her housing, Diamond and her children were on the brink of homelessness, with no viable alternatives. Desperate for a solution, Diamond turned to the Mighty Families program of Valley of the Sun United Way, which provided Diamond and her children with the critical resources and support needed to overcome challenges and forge a clear path to a productive future.

MEET LINDY
As a single mother and airport employee, Lindy struggled to find affordable child care for her two young daughters. Fortunately, Lindy learned about the City of Phoenix Airport Workers Child Care Scholarship Program, a collaborative effort between Valley of the Sun United Way, the City of Phoenix and First Things First. This program allowed Lindy to access affordable and reliable child care, enrolling her daughters in a qualified program within walking distance of their home. The scholarship eliminated a significant logistical barrier for Lindy as a working single parent.

MEET HELENA
Lacking role models who had achieved the college degree and computer technology career she aspired to, Helena was connected through Valley of the Sun United Way’s Pathways to Economic Opportunity program - a workforce development initiative that equips young Black and Latina women with valuable career skills and early work experience. This program opened up greater pathways to success for Helena by pairing her with a qualified mentor who could guide her in achieving her goals.
