Today, the American Immigration Council testified before Congress to relay a simple truth: conducting mass deportations targeted at over 13 million people would be devastating to our families and communities, the economy, and to the fabric of America itself.  

We told congressional leaders that we cannot let this happen. There are more effective and humane ways to fix our broken immigration system and create order at the border.

Trump’s proposed mass deportation regime would cost at least $315 billion:

• $89.3 billion for conducting mass arrests
   
• $167.8 billion for detaining immigrants in large numbers
   
• $34.1 billion for processing legal cases
   
• $24.1 billion for removal operations

Deporting millions of immigrants would also impact every community and household by shrinking the economy, putting Americans out of jobs, and raising the cost of living... and that’s to say nothing of the devastating human cost.
