John, gun
violence isn’t inevitable—it’s a choice by our leaders.

At March For Our Lives, we attack this epidemic from all angles including
through the courts.

Although election season is over, the Supreme Court is still in session
and we have an opportunity to create real change through the legal
decisions that come down from the court. We do this by filing amicus
briefs that show the impact of gun violence on young people and survivors.

Our Judicial Advocacy Team recently filed two amicus briefs in the United
States Supreme Court in the critical case Garland v. VanDerStok.

Here’s what you need to know:

* In 2022, the Biden-Harris administration and ATF banned the gun
industry from manufacturing and selling kits for “ghost guns,” AKA
unserialized, untraceable firearms that can be easily assembled in
minutes from parts acquired without a background check. Gun
manufacturers filed a lawsuit to overturn this rule, arguing that ATF
overstepped its authority. The Fifth Circuit sided with gun
manufacturers, halting the enforcement of this life-saving rule.
* March For Our Lives and our partners at Brady and Everytown filed an
amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to hear this case and hopefully
reverse this reckless decision. They listened!
* In July, we filed our second brief to tell SCOTUS that if this
decision is upheld, ghost guns will remain unregulated and
undetectable, leaving them in the hands of teenagers and people who
are prohibited from owning firearms.
* In October, the Court heard oral arguments for the case.
* We’re still waiting on the decision today.

The ATF estimates that between 2016 and 2022, law enforcement personnel
recovered approximately 71,024 unserialized crime guns.

A weapon is a weapon, and ghost guns NEED to be treated as such.

Early data already indicates a drop in ghost gun recoveries at crime
scenes since the ATF’s rule went into effect, further proving that a
Supreme Court ruling affirming the rule in VanDerStok is absolutely
essential to public safety.

We can’t afford to roll this back. The Supreme Court will have blood on
their hands if they deregulate ghost guns. We’re doing everything we can
right now to prevent that from happening.

Your Personal Invite To the Movement Fund 💌💙

At March For Our Lives, we call our monthly supporter program The
Movement Fund.

Why are monthly recurring donors so important? The amount of one-time
individual donations we receive as an organization varies vastly from
month to month.

Without a steady stream of monthly donations coming in our door, it
would be impossible to accurately plan our budgets, create long-term
strategies to win a future free from gun violence, plan and execute
on-the-ground organizing efforts, recruit and train more gun safety
champions, and more.

[ [link removed] ]One of the best ways that you can help sustain our movement is by
becoming a recurring monthly donor. Can you sign up today?
