Dear John,
We at ASAN wish you a happy holiday season. We are taking this time to reflect on this past year, the work we have done together, and the projects that still need to be finished. None of this, past, present, or future, would be possible without support from our grassroots. From one community builder to another, thank you for being part of our community.
This past year, ASAN has been hard at work fighting for equitable health care by supporting bills like HR 485, the Protecting Health Care for All Patients Act, which would protect the disability community from the use of Quality-Adjusted Life years (QALYs) in health care. With your support, we hosted an Advocacy 101 webinar to review the basics of system advocacy and how everyone can play a part in solving problems faced by our community. Additionally, this summer, in celebration of the ADA, we released a new video series called “A Self Advocate’s Guide to the Americans with Disabilities Act,” an adaptation of our Easy Read and Plain Language toolkit of the same name. As we prepare to continue this work in 2025, we are reaching out to you for assistance.
Here’s how you can help:
-
Consider a recurring donation -- our fun membership program makes it easy, plus we thank you for your support with exclusive perks!
-
Show your support with our merchandise. We have holiday cards and gifts you can buy for your loved ones!
-
Share our work with your friends and family, or on social media. The more people hear about us, the more people our resources can reach.
-
Start a Facebook Fundraiser! This is a great way to support us if you’re not able to give yourself, as there’s no need to contribute to your own fundraiser, just share with your friends.
-
Consider supporting ASAN during your end-of-year giving. Donations are tax deductible.
We already know that we’ll be facing uphill battles in the next year. We will work to protect public health, support home and community based services, and see that our voices will be heard where they matter most. Most importantly, we will be working in our community so that all self-advocates have a say in policy decisions that affect us. We know we will face many challenges, but, piece by piece and brick by brick, we will be here, fighting for our community.
We hope that you can join us – we truly can’t do this work without you.
Sincerely,
All of us at ASAN
