John,
Remember H.R. 9495, the bill that would give Donald Trump’s administration sweeping power to shut down any nonprofit organization he doesn’t like by accusing them of supporting terrorists without any due process or evidence?
After passing the House with the support of 15 establishment Democrats, it’s now moving to the Senate for a vote to advance to President Biden’s desk for signature.
If passed in the Senate, this assault on our freedom of speech and right to organize will give presidents like Trump unprecedented and unchecked power to squash dissent, especially when it comes to organizations speaking out against Israel’s ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
This is an alarming overreach of executive power that we can’t afford to put in the hands of any president, especially Trump.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
