Tell Congress:

"The Trump administration has used the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse to attack Social Security. First, Trump pledged to reject any future stimulus payments to people and families if Congress didn’t first cut payroll contributions―a direct attack on Social Security’s dedicated funding. Now, they want us to forfeit future Social Security benefits for cash payments today. We demand Congress protect Social Security, not defund or undermine it."

John,

We’re in for a major battle.

As the Senate begins negotiating what to include in the next round of COVID-19 response legislation, Donald Trump and his White House advisors are putting up road blocks. Trump has already indicated that he’s opposed to any additional stimulus funding for working people unless Congress gives in on his demands for a payroll tax cut, which threatens Social Security’s dedicated funding.[1]

Now, Senior White House Advisor Jared Kushner is circulating a new plan that further undermines Social Security. The so-called “Eagle Plan” would provide up to $10,000 to families in need today if they accept cuts to Social Security benefits later on.[2] So, the Trump Administration wants families to pay for the Administration’s incompetence in handling the pandemic through early withdrawals from their retirement savings.

This is nothing more than a right-wing trap to raise the retirement age on people in desperate need.

Join Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund and our allies in telling Congress to reject the Trump administration’s latest ploy to cut Social Security.

The “Eagle Plan,” written by two conservative think tanks, is trying to achieve a long-held right-wing goal of raising the retirement age and cutting Social Security benefits.

Senate Republicans and the Trump administration have been more than happy to give unnecessary tax-handouts to millionaires and businesses―such as the $135 billion #MillionairesGiveaway in the $2.2 trillion pandemic relief law―but when it comes to assisting families most in need in the midst of a pandemic, no way.

Sign the petition: Tell Congress to reject the Trump administration’s attempts to stealthily raise the Social Security retirement age, while taking advantage of people’s financial desperation in the midst of a pandemic.

Together, we’re fighting for policies that put people first, not the rich and corporations.

Thank you,
