Dear friend,
I personally invite you to attend our next Claudia Miller Ignite Series webinar. It will focus on new legislation we’re championing, tell you why it’s so important to animals, and give you specific guidance on the easy steps you can take to help us pass it.
The bill, the Snowmobiles Aren’t Weapons (SAW) Act, is one of our top priorities for 2025 and the new Congress.
The SAW Act is a direct response to the horrific story that came out of Daniel, Wyo., last spring. Millions of people across the globe—including many of you—reacted with shock and horror when local trucker Cody Roberts used his snowmobile to chase and run over a young wolf we named Theia. After plowing over the terrified animal, he bound her with tape, tortured her in front of friends at a local bar, and took her out back and shot her to death.
That act of depravity is why we are so passionate about the SAW Act. Intentionally running over a wolf, coyote or any other animal with a snowmobile is an act of sadism, and anyone who commits this kind of malice is a threat to the well-being of all animals and even people. It’s an indicator of a mental pathology. It’s grievously immoral, and it should be illegal.
Cody Roberts Is Not an Outlier
Most of the country has no experience with snowmobiles, and when folks outside of the snowbelt or mountainous areas picture them, they imagine a joyful pastime on winter wonderlands in America’s most rustic and natural places. But for some people in our snowy states, the powerful machines are used not just for innocent fun, but to chase, run over, and kill wildlife—wolves and coyotes in particular.
We wish Cody Roberts were an anomaly, a rare individual with a spirit that is uniquely cruel. But the practice of using vehicles—not just snowmobiles—to recreationally injure and pulverize animals is disturbingly common. The practice, known as “whacking” or “thumping,” should be abhorred and fought by people no matter where they live. That’s why we need you and your friends to attend our webinar, Why and How You Should Support the SAW Act. Only by becoming informed and by taking action can we prevent others like Cody Roberts from using vehicles to massacre innocent animals just for the fun of it.
I’ll be leading the webinar and we’ll be joined by special and expert guests to help us pass this critical legislation next year.
Thank you. We hope to see you there.
