Donald Trump came shockingly close to winning Virginia, and now Republicans believe they have a prime opportunity to take over our 1-seat majority in the State Senate. Next month, there will be a special election in Senate District 32 to replace Congressman-elect Subramanyam, and far-right Republicans are already pouring all their resources into flipping this seat.
After gaining complete control of the federal government, they see Virginia as the next target. Loudoun County, which saw some of the largest swings toward Republicans this year, is now seen as a key battleground. If they flip SD-32, Republicans will seize control of the State Senate, and our hard-fought Blue wall will begin to crumble.
Delegate Kannan Srinivasan is the Democratic nominee for this seat, and I know firsthand that he is the strong, principled leader we need. Kannan will stand up to right-wing extremists and work to make Virginia a more affordable, equitable place for all of us.
We can’t let Virginia slip into the hands of MAGA Republicans. We need resources now to protect our progress and defend our Senate majority.
