Q: What socio-political challenges did you observe before getting involved with New American Leaders (NAL)? What did you want to change?

A: Before joining NAL, I saw deep-rooted socio-political challenges: a lack of minority representation in public office, politicians prioritizing their gain over community welfare, and a widespread distrust in our leaders. Running for office seemed to be more about status than service. I want to bring fair, honest representation to my community, by focusing on community needs over corporate interests. I aim to drive meaningful change by potentially running for office and volunteering, supporting local initiatives, and holding politicians accountable. My aim is people over politics.




Q: What motivated you to take action? How is being part of the NAL community helping you make change?

A: As an Arab American Muslim of Palestinian and Jordanian heritage, I was motivated to take action due to frustration with the status quo, the lack of representation in politics, and the continuous conflict and tragedy in the Middle East. I realized that if we want real change, we must be the ones to drive it. Being part of the NAL community has empowered me by connecting me with passionate individuals and providing opportunities to engage in thoughtful discussions, attend events, and receive training—ensuring we are equipped to make a real impact.




Q: What have you learned from your journey with NAL?

A: My journey with NAL has taught me the intricacies of campaigning, from running for office and managing a campaign to gathering volunteer support and raising funds. I’ve learned how to craft and deliver a strong stump speech that resonates with people and the dedication and commitment it takes to create real change. This path is challenging, but with the support of NAL, my peers, and the community, I feel equipped to persevere. I've gained confidence in my ability to advocate for my community and make a lasting impact.




Q: What are your hopes for the future?

A: My hopes for the future include running for office, increasing representation, and fostering a political culture that genuinely prioritizes people over politics. I dream of a world free from wars, conflict, and genocide, where communities thrive on compassion and support for education, economic stability, and sustainable growth. I envision a political landscape without corporate greed or leaders bending to the highest bidder, where integrity and service guide decision-making. Ultimately, I hope for a more inclusive and caring society, shaped by leaders who put their communities first.




Q: How can others help make a difference?

A: Everyone has the power to make a real difference! Start by voting in every election—not just the big ones—because local elections directly shape our communities. Dive into the NAL training programs to gain amazing insights and join a movement for change. Support local politicians you believe in by door-knocking, fundraising, or simply spreading the word. And don’t underestimate the power of education! Inspiring even one more person to get involved can spark a ripple effect that empowers and uplifts our entire community. Together, we can create lasting change.
