Friends,
Last week, Nancy Pelosi unveiled a gargantuan $3 trillion relief package -- the HEROES Act. The bill would give state and local governments $875 billion in aid, provide $75 billion to bolster testing and contract tracing solutions, and send another round of $1,200 direct cash payments to American taxpayers and their families.
In other words: the bill would give relief to struggling communities, a much-needed boost to recovery efforts, and a vital financial lifeline to the millions of Americans hurt by the Trump administration’s failed response.
No surprise, then, that Republicans oppose it -- with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell saying he feels no “urgency” to act and that he’d rather wait for guidance from the White House. According to McConnell, until Trump gives permission, relief efforts should be “paused.”
Pelosi’s response? “To those who would suggest a pause, I’ll say the hunger doesn’t take a pause. The rent doesn’t take a pause. The hardship doesn’t take a pause.”
It looks like Nancy Pelosi is standing up to the Republicans. But where do you stand?
