City council appeals for more foster carers

**A message from City Council Deputy Leader Cllr Sally Longford:**

sally longford

Foster carers are always needed but the Covid-19 crisis has made many people realise the importance of family and community, especially during Foster Care Fortnight.

By giving a home to a child through fostering you will be making a life-changing difference to a vulnerable child and often their family. Providing the stability needed for them to reach their full academic and social potential and developing a bond that can last a lifetime.

I would urge anyone who is thinking of fostering to come forward and find out more and to book onto our virtual fostering information evenings (we have one tomorrow at 6.30pm) with Nottingham City Council visit www.fosteringnottingham.com [ [link removed] ].

*Resources to look after your wellbeing as we Stay At Home*

Every mind matters logo

Taking care of our mental health is so important, particularly right now as many of us are apart from our loved ones and may find our usual coping mechanisms such as a trip to the gym or hobby currently inaccessible to us. We have developed StayingHOME [ [link removed] ], a centralised information hub to keep us all active, healthy and entertained whilst staying home. Its packed with ideas for the whole family - from online festivals and virtual tours to home workouts and learning a new hobby, there really is something for everyone.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week [ [link removed] ] and were encouraging people to pick up the phone and have a natter with someone you know over a cup of tea, you will not just make their day but yours too.

*If you can store waste safely at home please do so*

Many households in Nottingham have used the lockdown period to have that long put-off clear out! Id like to thank everyone who has made the right decision and responsibly stored their waste at home. We are starting to open up our additional waste services, but I would ask for those who can safely hold on to their items a little while longer to do so whilst we manage the initial demand for these services. The Household Waste and Recycle Centre opened this week but getting through the queue to get on site will take a few hours. The Bulky Waste Service is also now back in operation but already has a two-week waiting list. Staff are working really hard in both services to catch up with Nottinghams clear out whilst also adhering to social distancing measures to keep staff and visitors safe. See more on the reopening of the waste and recycling centre and bulky waste service here [ [link removed] ].
