International Human Rights Day 2024:
Take Action for LGBTIQ Equality
Dear John,
On this International Human Rights Day, we invite you to join us in affirming a simple truth: LGBTIQ rights are human rights.
Yet for tens of millions around the world, these rights remain under threat — from discriminatory laws to violence and erasure. Achieving true equality requires more than hope — it requires collective action.
Now is the time to speak out against hate — here’s how you can make a difference today:
1. Raise your voice: Use your social media platforms to amplify the message that the rights of LGBTIQ people are non-negotiable. Share stories, stats, and solidarity with the hashtag #LGBTIQRightsAreHumanRights.
2. Learn and share about challenges facing our global LGBTIQ communities: Understand the specific human rights struggles that LGBTIQ individuals face worldwide. Share our 2024 Human Rights Day statement ([link removed]) , articles ([link removed]) , and podcasts ([link removed]) from Outright International to help others become more informed.
3. Support LGBTIQ artists and creators: Share the work of LGBTIQ activists, filmmakers, musicians, writers, and other creators from around the world to raise awareness and support their efforts. Whether it's a book, documentary, or artwork, showing up for LGBTIQ creators is a powerful form of activism.
4. Donate: Your support makes it possible to challenge injustice ([link removed]) and build a world where love and identity are celebrated, not punished or used to divide.
Together, we can amplify the message that queer love, identity, and equality should never be compromised. Every step you take — no matter how small — brings us closer to a world where everyone’s human rights are respected and upheld.
Thank you for joining with us,
Maria Sjödin [they/she]

P.S. Human Rights Day is observed annually on December 10, marking the anniversary of the United Nations adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 — a groundbreaking document that proclaims the inalienable rights all people are entitled to, regardless of who they are or where they live.
