Dear Global Citizen,



Today, Hugh Jackman marked Human Rights Day by using his platform to support
human rights and those who defend them.



We should all be empowered to act on Human Rights Day. From the minute we wake
up to the time we go to bed, human rights are at play: when you eat, go to work
or school, breathe, even when you go to the bathroom! Human rights are like
air: we all rely on them but we only notice them when they are taken away and
we start to suffocate.

We often see stories on the news that show what happens when human rights are
ignored, while countless acts of progress go unnoticed. Every day, activists
and human rights defenders lead the way, often at great personal risk, to
ensure that every one of us has our rights protected and upheld.

You don’t need to be an activist or lawyer to understand that being a human
being entitles everyone to basic human rights. Anyone can be a human rights
defender. That may sound daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. We can all make a
difference with just two simple steps:
