Before October 2023, AFSC had a small humanitarian aid operation in Gaza. We had just finished delivering wheelchairs, walkers, and other essentials to elders when Israel’s bombardment of Gaza began. With help from supporters like you, we became the fifth largest provider of humanitarian aid to displaced people in the year that followed, delivering hundreds of thousands of meals as well as water, hygiene kits, baby formula, blankets, and more.
But our work is not done. People in Gaza still urgently need our help. Your gift today sustains our humanitarian relief efforts and supports our advocacy for lasting peace.
In 2018, as caravans of migrants traveled north from Central America, AFSC provided humanitarian aid and monitored for human rights violations. As the Trump administration separated over 5,000 migrant children from their families at the border, we mobilized people across the country in protest. Together we succeeded in pressuring the administration to close an “emergency influx center” in Florida where migrant children were being held without meeting basic standards of care.
We are still building toward a future where immigrants are welcomed and treated with dignity. We help communities address the root causes of migration and work for immigration policies that are just. Your gift today supports those efforts.
When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted life for people around the world in 2020, AFSC pivoted to help communities meet essential needs. Our program in New Mexico created an innovative Farm to Foodbank project that helped farms survive and foodbanks meet rising needs. It was so successful, that the program is now funded by the state of New Mexico. In communities around the world, we supported mutual aid initiatives and community gardens to help people put food on the table.
