“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much,” Helen Keller.
Since starting at the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), it’s clear to me we all share a common mission serving Minnesota Veterans and their families. When we are all aligned around this shared mission, we create a deep sense of unity and motivation that drives everyone toward the same goal. Our work in serving Veterans and their families should move us beyond personal agendas and motivate us to work together collectively, where every effort, no matter how small, serves the bigger picture.
When we work together, we understand and appreciate the unique strengths that each person brings to the table. Successful collaboration requires empathy, active listening and an openness to diverse ideas and perspectives, all of which I’ve experienced while working at MDVA.
Working together requires a level of trust and communication that transcends individual differences. It’s about finding balance, knowing when to lead and when to follow, when to speak up and when to step back. Conflicts are natural in any team setting, but the ability to navigate these moments with respect and compromise is key. At its best, collaboration is not just about dividing up tasks, but about building a sense of community where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute. When this dynamic is achieved, the work becomes not just more efficient, but also more meaningful, as each person feels a shared sense of accomplishment and purpose.
I enjoy working at MDVA because we partner with others while all sharing a common mission. Come join MDVA and work collectively toward a bigger purpose.
