John,
In a voicenote just now, Doris gave our team the news: the forest she and
her community have been working to replant has been burned down.
Doris is Cabécar, one of the Indigenous peoples in Costa Rica fighting to
reclaim land that by law is theirs. To save the land that was razed by
beef ranchers, she and others had strategically planted native fruit
trees, which the Cabécar know are the best way to help local forests
recover.
They were making real progress, even capturing the attention of global
media – but now almost ALL of the replanted forest has been intentionally
burned down.
But they’re not backing down, and they need help buying cameras and
computers to set up a surveillance system, so it doesn’t happen again.
If each of us donates a small amount right now, we can send them all the
equipment they need - plus ramp up Ekō campaigns to protect nature
everywhere - will you help?

Doris and her family and friends aren’t new to this kind of violent
retaliation and death threats. Ranchers and the multinational beef
companies who support them stand to lose profits if the Cabécar succeed in
reclaiming their territories in Costa Rica.
So they risk their lives with their resistance movement. Whether it’s
planting trees, organizing public pressure for policy reforms, or even
taking ranchers and companies to court – they know there can often be
violent or deadly consequences.
But they don’t have to do it alone. Our movement was made for exactly this
purpose – to unite together, worldwide behind the communities most
affected by corporate greed.
Let’s unite behind Doris and the Cabécar, and help them protect themselves
as they embark yet again on their mission to recover the forest in China
