Over the weekend, President-elect Donald Trump admitted he plans to deport U.S. citizens.

In her interview with Trump, Meet the Press host Kristen Welker pointed out that there are 4 million families with mixed immigration status in the United States — including undocumented parents who have children with citizenship — and Trump’s border czar suggested they can be deported together.

When she asked the future president if that’s the plan, Trump replied:

“The only way you don’t break up the family is you keep them together and you have to send them all back.”

Let me be clear: It is unlawful and unconstitutional to deport U.S. citizens, period.

While the incoming president wants to do what he wants, when, and how he wants, the presidency is limited in its authority by the Constitution and the rule of law. If Trump breaks the law, we’ll fight back.
