Indivisibles,

Last week, the final congressional race of the 2024 election was called.
In California’s 13th district, Democrat Adam Gray won a hard-fought race,
unseating incumbent John Duarte by a margin of less than 200 votes. (This
victory is thanks in part to the work of Indivisibles in a district we've
been targeting since 2022!)

Gray’s win and vacancies resulting from Trump nominations will leave House
Republicans with a miniscule 217-215 majority early in the term -- the
smallest GOP majority in history. If we can keep Democrats aligned, a
single GOP defection would be enough to thwart Trump’s legislative agenda
during the first months of his presidency.

[ [link removed] ]As we note in the new Indivisible Guide, autocrats thrive when they can
project an image of omnipotence. But with majorities this thin, we’re
going to be able to puncture any veneer that Trump is “all powerful” very
quickly.

By utilizing the tactics outlined in the guide, we’ll be able to block and
delay key elements of Trump’s agenda that require congressional approval
-- tax breaks for the ultra wealthy, funding for mass deportations,
rolling back the Affordable Care Act, proposed cuts to Medicaid and
Medicare, and more.

If we do this right, by the time that vacancies in Congress are filled and
Republicans have a slightly bigger (but still historically small) majority
in the House, Trump will be weakened and backlash to Republican rule will
be mounting as we gear up for 2026.

We’re not saying it will be easy -- and we can’t discount the harm Trump
can do via executive power. But the road ahead looks a little brighter
than it did the morning after the election. If we throw everything we’ve
got into this fight, we can land some early wins, fuel backlash to
Republican incompetence and cruelty, and start building a wave that’ll
clean house in 2026.

With that, check out your weekly to-dos:

 Your weekly to-dos

 1. [ [link removed] ]Tell your representative to push for the publication of the Equal
Rights Amendment (ERA). Indivisible has joined the “Biden Publish the
ERA” alliance, a coalition of organizations and medical associations
urging President Biden to enshrine gender equality into our
Constitution by publishing the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA has
cleared the threshold for ratification, but it’s been held up because
of GOP opposition and legal debates. Call your representative today
and tell them to push President Biden and VP Harris to publish the
ERA.
 2. [ [link removed] ]If you haven’t already, read the new Indivisible Guide. Our new
“Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink” is full of information,
tips, and strategies designed to help you harness your power, organize
effectively, and push back as Trump seeks to undermine our democracy
and impose Project 2025. Read the new guide, share it with your
friends, and get ready to organize Trump and his cronies right out of
power. Also: You asked, we answered. The guide is now available in
downloadable and easy-to-print formats.
 3. [ [link removed] ]Learn how to join or start an Indivisible group on Tuesday,
December 17 at 8pm ET/5pm PT.  Are you interested in being part of a
local network of like-minded people who want to fight to protect our
freedoms, families, and futures during the next Trump administration?
Maybe you already know that you are interested in starting an
Indivisible group, but don't know what the first steps are? Join us on
this call, where we’ll give a brief overview of Indivisible, go over
the first steps to building a local network, and tell you how to begin
taking action in your community, supported by a national movement.
 4. [ [link removed] ]Tell your Democratic senators to fill every judicial vacancy
now. December 20 is the final day of this Congressional session.
Thanks to the work of Democratic senators (and their constituents, who
made their feelings known), the Senate is on track to confirm 235 of
Biden’s judicial nominees -- more than Trump got through in his first
term. However, the Senate still needs to keep working for the next 11
days to confirm the outstanding nominees or Trump will get the chance
to fill those vacancies with MAGA loyalists. Tell your senators you
expect them to put in the long hours necessary to get pro-democracy
judges confirmed!
 5. [ [link removed] ]Check out our toolkit, Democrats Safeguarding Democracy: A
Blueprint For Blue States to Prepare for Trump 2.0. If you’re in a
blue state, there are numerous ways your state lawmakers can act
swiftly to protect the safety, rights, and freedoms of their residents
-- and even mitigate the harm of a Trump presidency for residents of
other states. This toolkit will show you how to push your leaders to
take action against the looming threat of a second Trump
administration. If you’re in a state where your Democratic elected
officials are already making moves to resist, you’ll learn how to
cheer on your electeds and how to stand by them when the going gets
tough.

P.S. -- We've kicked off our end-of-year fundraising campaign! We have a
lot of work to do to prepare for an incoming Trump administration and we
can't do it without your support. [ [link removed] ]So, please click here to pitch in and
ensure we're ready to take on the fights to come.

Truth Brigade Big Truths: Year-End Debrief and Party

“Celebration” seems difficult when we think of the increase in
disinformation we expect in 2025, and yet we DO have much to celebrate! In
our last call of 2024, we’ll rekindle our hope through pragmatic planning.
We’ll celebrate accomplishments, get to know one another in small groups,
and launch our holiday message campaign called “Holiday Hope from the
Truth Brigade.” Coming together in community is our path to resilience.
