Public Policy Action Alert

Right Now is Our Time to Address High Health Care Costs

Everyone deserves access to affordable health care. For 16 years, Congress has provided modest funding to community-based organizations to find and enroll people in a program that helps them afford Medicare costs. That funding expires Dec. 31.

Tell your members of Congress to extend funding for the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) so a crucial outreach tool for low-income older adults is protected.

Aging Advocates Need to Be Loud

There's no shortage of pressing issues Congress must address. We're worried MIPPA funding could get lost in the shuffle at a time when older adults are finalizing their Medicare coverage and budgets for 2025. Use these tips to help your message stand out :
* Personalize your message. Tell a story about yourself or someone you know who was (or could have been) helped by MIPPA's outreach.
* Emphasize bipartisanship. Everyone wants older adults to get the help they deserve. NCOA's own research has shown that MIPPA is overwhelmingly popular with members of both political parties.
* Offer to continue the conversation. If you are willing, offer to engage your members of Congress further via phone or a visit to their local office. They might reach out to you about this issue to learn more!

You can always reach out to NCOA's Public Policy and Advocacy team for assistance. Send us an email at [email protected] [[email protected]?subject=Support requested: MIPPA advocacy] and we'll see how we can support you.

Thank you for being an unwavering supporter of aging well!
