We're excited to share the Alliance for Gun Responsibility's 2025 Legislative Agenda! At the top of our priorities is a proposal to create a Permit-to-Purchase system in Washington state—a proven, life-saving policy that reduces gun violence.

Permit-to-Purchase systems require an in-person application, fingerprint verification, a thorough background check, and firearm safety training. This policy ensures only those eligible can purchase firearms. States with these systems see significantly lower rates of firearm deaths, gun trafficking, and suicides.

Here’s why this matters: if Washington had adopted a Permit-to-Purchase law when Connecticut did, research shows 1,205 fewer gun deaths could have occurred over the first 10 years of implementation. It’s time to take this step.

Our 2025 agenda also focuses on:

• Strengthening laws to hold gun dealers accountable.
• Safeguarding funding for community violence intervention programs.
• Expanding safe storage and limiting guns in sensitive public spaces.

Together, we’ve passed groundbreaking policies and built strong infrastructure for gun safety in Washington. In 2025, we have a chance to continue leading the nation in gun violence prevention.
