Hey John,
This weekend at the Animal Liberation Online Assembly, our topic is on how we involve farmers in the animal agriculture industry to join us in the fight for animal liberation. Renee King-Sonnen, a rancher-turned-activist and founder of the Rancher Advocacy Program, will be talking about Bringing Farmers into the Animal Rights Movement this Saturday, May 23rd at 1 PM PDT. All are welcome! To attend and stay updated with event details, you must register for free at dxe.io/ALOA if you haven't already. You will receive more information (call-in links and instructions) after you register.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place in Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Thursday, May 21st, 5:30 PM: Transforming Grief Into Nonviolent Power - Grief and anger are powerful emotions. How we relate to them determines how we show up during the intense, confrontational direct actions we must take in these desperate times. We will look at how grief and anger our affecting us now and ask what it takes to channel them the way we want to. This workshop is led by Nirali Shah. This event is also part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Saturday, May 23rd 11 AM: Meetup: Online Community Hangout - During shelter-in-place we have not only shifted Meetups online, but also shifted the focus from informative presentations to social hangouts! That's why for the last three weeks of May we're having informal community hangouts online. Join us on Saturday mornings to hangout, chat, and play games! To receive the Zoom call-in link, see instructions in the event page details.
- Sunday, May 24th, 1 PM: How to Change the World in One Generation - DxE Intro Workshop - Right now the most vulnerable individuals are being exploited on a massive scale and it will only get worse if we don’t take action now. But can we as average citizens really make a difference to help them? The answer is YES. In Direct Action Everywhere’s workshop, you will learn the history of social movements, the ground-breaking new research that shows the power of ordinary people, and the bold plan to nonviolently abolish the most harmful industry on earth that kills billions of animals every year. This interactive workshop was created by DxE co-founder and former Northwestern law professor Wayne Hsiung. After this workshop you will have the tools to begin taking high impact action with thousands around the world to create historic change by saving billions of lives. See the event page for the call-in link and instructions.
- Sunday, May 24th, 7 PM: Online Protest Movie Night: "13th" - DxE SF Bay's protest team is organizing a Zoom movie night, and you're invited! Join us on Zoom and watch “13th”. The film explores the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States. See the event page for the Zoom link!
- Help Ban Dietary Racism (Call to action) - Help send a message to the US Dietary Guidelines Committee that dairy has no place on our plates as a food group for humans. If we get enough comments opposing the inclusion of dairy in dietary guidelines, there is a lot of pressure we can place on the committee. Use this link to submit a comment: https://www.regulations.gov/comment?D=FNS-2019-0001-6698. We have until June 1st to make comments!
