Dear John, Congress is threatening to cut off access to medically necessary care for thousands of trans and nonbinary youth. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)—which funds the military and programs that support servicemembers—contains a provision which would ban gender-affirming care for minor dependents of members of our armed forces. Make no mistake: When military service members are forced to choose between serving their country and keeping their families safe, it puts our national security at risk. Instead of focusing on defending our freedom from threats from abroad, anti-equality House leaders are hijacking a defense bill to play politics with the healthcare of children of servicemembers. Call or email your representative NOW and tell them to vote NO on the NDAA! If the NDAA passes congress with this provision, it will have devastating consequences for trans youth, for the military families who love them, and even for America’s military readiness and morale. This discriminatory provision is a true slap in the face to servicemembers and their families, who sacrifice every day for our country. Servicemembers like Branden, a veteran and parent of a trans kid. The vote on the NDAA is expected as early as TOMORROW. It is critical that PFLAGers make their voices heard. Call and email your representatives and tell them to protect trans kids, and please consider including Branden’s video with your message as well.
