More than 2 million retirees see their Social Security checks slashed each month due to the unfair Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision. These penalties impact our nation's firefighters, teachers, police officers, sanitation workers, postal workers and other dedicated workers.
More details about the Social Security Fairness Act are in the email below, in case you missed our last email about this. We hope you’ll make a phone call and join us at the rally.
See you there!

Friend -
Last week, we asked you to call your representative about two unfair parts of the Social Security law—and a bill that would restore retirement fairness and full retirement benefits for millions of hardworking Americans.
That bill passed the House of Representatives and is now awaiting a vote in the Senate.
Can you make a call? If you called the House, you can call again to reach your senators and encourage them to vote for the Social Security Fairness Act. → go.aflcio.org/ssfa
Here’s more about what this legislation would do. During Ronald Reagan’s administration, the government cut the hard-earned retirement benefits of millions of workers. Their Social Security checks were slashed if they took a second job after they retired; benefits were even reduced for their surviving spouse.
The bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act (S. 597) would restore fairness and increase many workers’ Social Security benefits.
Encourage your senators to work with leadership to bring the Social Security Fairness Act to the floor for a vote before the end of the session. → go.aflcio.org/ssfa
This legislation can make a huge difference in the lives of millions of workers. Everyone deserves to retire with dignity.
Thank you for taking action.
In Solidarity,
Team AFL-CIO
