My name is Val Beck - I am a Colorado based Democratic political operative, I run a campaign consulting firm that just finished working on the race to unseat Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s 4th.

This year, Colorado Democratic campaigns celebrated significant achievements but also suffered painful defeats.

The successes weren’t coincidental—they were the result of resilience, innovative strategies, and tireless organizing efforts from passionate individuals statewide.

But here’s the challenge: after every election, campaigns shut down and the vital staff who spent the past two years building strong campaigns and learning invaluable lessons are scattered to the wind and left to fend for themselves.

Case in point: the DNC just laid off hundreds of key staff in the aftermath of the 2024 election.

Our movement’s staff, who gained invaluable knowledge this cycle, are the backbone of our efforts to keep Colorado progressive and we can’t afford to lose them and the organizing infrastructure they’ve built year after year.

That’s why in 2020 I launched The Steady - an organization focused on helping new political staffers gain the skills and connections to stay engaged within the campaign ecosystem without falling through the cracks or leaving the political workforce altogether.

These hardworking staff need steady employment, otherwise the brain drain we suffer after each election will sap us of the human capital it takes to win tough races.
