John —
Yesterday morning, in Donald Trump’s first televised interview since the election, he called for members of the January 6 Committee to be jailed. Including Liz Cheney and me.
He wants to prosecute the truth-tellers.
He wants to pardon perpetrators of political violence from the January 6 insurrection.
That’s not what democracies do — that’s what dictators do.
This is what we’re up against for the next four years, John. I’m being sworn into the United States Senate later today, where I will use my position to deliver for California and the country on issues like housing, childcare, and the cost of living. But clearly, I will also have my work cut out for me in holding Trump and his appointees to account.

Donald Trump has sought political retribution against everyone who has held him accountable in the past. Now, with the power of the executive branch, he’s threatening to jail those of us who thoroughly investigated his involvement in the January 6 insurrection.
“Everybody on that committee… should go to jail for what they did.”
With Kash Patel as a potential FBI Director, Donald Trump wants to fill his Cabinet with loyalists who will follow his every word.
John, the United States Senate needs to be a strong force of accountability. I will use my position to defend our democracy, even if it means facing threats from the commander-in-chief. Nothing is more important to me than protecting our Constitution and delivering for California.
I need your support now more than before as I face new attacks from Trump just hours before I take my oath for the U.S. Senate. Please pitch in to my work today.

Thank you, John.
