Dear Friend,
Our December 12th town hall will be rescheduled for January.
While I was looking forward to connecting with all of you before the end of the year, I'm excited that we'll have the opportunity to come together in the new year. This gives us a chance to reflect on our community's achievements in 2024 and discuss priorities for 2025. Stay tuned for the exact date and location of our January town hall.
Co-sponsoring the Polluters Pay Act
For decades, major corporations have exploited legal loopholes to dump environmental costs onto communities, particularly low-income and communities of color. That's why I'm proud to co-sponsor the Polluters Pay Act, a piece of legislation that will finally make corporate polluters pay their fair share.
This bill would create the "National Resilience and Recovery Fund," which will use targeted taxes on corporate polluters to fund critical climate resilience and recovery efforts. The fund will provide resources for communities hit hardest by climate change, supporting infrastructure improvements, disaster recovery, and environmental restoration
Re-Elected Deputy Chair of the Progressive Caucus
I'm thrilled to share that I was recently re-elected unanimously as the Deputy Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus for the 119th Congress, joining an incredible leadership group committed to advancing progressive priorities for the American people.
Joining me in key leadership roles are Rep. Greg Casar, who will serve as Chair, and Rep. Chuy Garcia, who has been elected as Whip. Together, we're dedicated to championing the policies that matter most to working people, from healthcare and economic justice to critical climate action.
Fighting for the Fifth Constituent Testimonial – Mairead
We recently had the opportunity to assist Mairead with receiving her apostille in a timely manner to get her visa to teach in Spain.
“I was accepted to teach English in Spain with NALCAP just a month before the beginning of the program. However, to receive my visa, I needed to send an apostilled FBI background check to the Spanish Consulate which can take months to acquire. Congresswoman Omar’s Office was able to expedite the processing of my apostille, so that I was able to move to Spain and begin teaching in a timely manner. I am so grateful for the quick response and assistance that Rep. Omar’s office provided, and I would not have been able to spend this year sharing language and culture with primary and secondary school students and exploring a new county without their support.”
