2024 has been a tragic year for anyone who believes that unhoused people are, in fact, people. From cities across the country racing to displace unhoused communities after the Supreme Court’s Grants Pass ruling to extreme weather impacting unhoused people across the country, it has been a tough year. But today, just as we enter the final stretch of this long year, a New York jury has decided that it is, in fact, perfectly legal to murder an unhoused man with your bare hands [ [link removed] ] in front of a full audience and a great deal of cameras.
I am absolutely sick at this. We are becoming a crueler, less compassionate world by the day and, as always, it is the most vulnerable among us who pay the price.
That is why we at Project ID are dedicating 2025 to expanding the number of organizations that obtain IDs across the country. Whether through our new incubator, our ambitious 50 state coalition, or the expansion of our HUBS, we are working to ensure that people can get IDs wherever they are.
We urgently need to get people inside and safe, because their very lives are at risk on all sides. As the year ends, help us prepare for a big new year in which we work to protect as many of those lives as possible.
