Monthly Daily Journal Column

ONU School of Social Work Speaking

I had the pleasure to speak to the School of Social Work at Olivet Nazarene University about elections and voting! It was delightful to speak with students about the ways we can vote, how to register, and the importance of civic engagement.







Brookfield Zoo Visit in Monee

I had such a fun time at Monee Elementary where they got a visit from Brookfield Zoo! It was a good way to get students excited about zoology and give them a hands-on experience with some animals.







SAFE-T Act Panel

I was honored to participate in a panel on the SAFE-T Act, alongside Sheriff Mike Downey and and Kankakee's State Attorney Jim Rowe. We discussed how this legislation has impacted the safety of Illinoisans and some reasonable changes we hope can be made going forward.





Kankakee Chamber of Commerce Annual Gala

My team and I attended the Kankakee Chamber of Commerce 2024 Annual Gala. What a wonderful evening of networking and celebrating local businesses! Congratulations to all of the award winners for their outstanding contributions to the community!





Veteran's Day in Park Forest

My team and I had a wonderful day of activities celebrating our veterans in Park Forest for their 75th-anniversary celebration. Thank you for your service!

Perry Farm Veteran's Memorial

I had the honor to participate and speak at the Veteran's Day ceremony at the Perry Farm's Veteran's Memorial. Thank you to the Bourbonnais Township Park District for the invitation, and an additional thanks to Veteran Ken Goodwin, and his wife Diana who care for the Veteran's Garden.





Kankakee Courthouse Open House

My staff attended the Kankakee County Courthouse Open House while I was away in Springfield. This was a great way to show our public more about the way our courts work here in Kankakee County!





Veto Session in Springfield

Veto session is wrapped up in Springfield. It's always great to meet with stakeholders and constituents while I'm at the Capitol!





Project Headspace and Timing Gala

My team and I had the pleasure of attending the Project Headspace and Timing Gala. This was a great evening of recognition of all involved for the work this organization is doing to help our veteran community!







Red Kettle Kickoff

I enjoyed attending the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Kickoff. Thank you to the Salvation Army for all the work you do to help our community, especially during the holiday season!



Kankakee CEO Meet and Greet

Thank you to my staff who attended the Kankakee CEO Meet and Greet, while I was away in Springfield! This is the second year of this great program that promotes entrepreneurial skills in our youth. Looking forward to the future successes of these students!





Crete-Monee NJROTC

I had the honor to attend the 2024 Crete-Monee High School NJROTC area manager inspection. These students are a wonderful example of dedication and commitment. Best of luck to all the cadets!

- U.S. Marine Corps Birthday - Happy birthday to the U.S. Marine Corps! Since 1775, Marines have served our country with honor, dedication, and courage. Thank you to all who have, and continue to, serve our country as Marines. Semper Fi!

- Veteran's Day - This Veteran's Day, we pause to honor and thank all of the men and women who have served our country. Your unwavering bravery, resilience, and courage are unmatched and have ensured our freedom for generations. Thank you to all who have served!

- Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week - During Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, we raise awareness for those who face the struggles of homelessness and hunger every day. Together we can make a difference. Whether it's through donating, volunteering, or advocating for change, every effort helps create a world where no one has to go hungry or without a home.

- American Education Week - American Education Week celebrates the power of learning and the incredible educators, students, and families who make it all possible. This week, let's all appreciate the hard work and dedication of educators, support staff, and administrators who teach the next generation of leaders. Thank you for all that you do!

- National Education Support Professionals Day - On National Education Support Professionals Day, we honor the amazing individuals who play a vital role in our schools. From custodians to librarians and classroom assistants, the hard work and dedication of education support professionals do not go unappreciated. Thank you for everything that you do to support our students!
