The 2024 election cycle has wrapped up, and many of us can finally make time to connect with family, relax, and take a breather from the intensity of politics.

For those of us in Arizona, this relative quiet won't last long. By 2025, Arizona will once again be at the center of the nation’s political spotlight. With Donald Trump entering his second term, our border-state status, diverse population, and Democratic statewide officeholders will make us a target for his policies and rhetoric.

Trump has made immigration his cornerstone issue, branding it the “Bidenvasion” and pledging to deport millions of immigrants. States like Texas are already paving the way, offering land for detention camps to support this agenda. But while Texas’s Republican leadership welcomes these measures, Arizona has stood as a line of defense.

Our Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs, Attorney General Kris Mayes, and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes are determined to prevent as much harm as possible from Trump's most extreme MAGA policies here. Without these Democratic leaders, Arizona could face a grim reality: invasive raids, broken families, and a political landscape driven by deliberate cruelty.

However, these leaders are all up for re-election in 2026—two years before Trump’s term ends. If Republicans win, they’ll likely mirror Texas and bend to Trump's will, regardless of the harm to Arizona communities.
