Public Health Maintains National Accreditation Status

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health received reaccreditation status through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) for a continued five years. Public Health completed a comprehensive, multi-faceted assessment process that demonstrated adherence to PHAB’s quality standards and measures for public health departments.

“We are pleased to be recognized by the Public Health Accreditation Board for achieving national standards that foster effectiveness and promote continuous quality improvement to better serve our communities,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.Ed., Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. “I want to thank all our partners, community organizations, and the Board of Supervisors for supporting the valuable work we do to address public health needs in our communities.”

Public Health is committed to serving Los Angeles County residents by providing frontline services and resources and collaborating with partners and communities to prevent disease and injury, protect the wellbeing and health of consumers, support those with substance-use disorders, and develop data driven approaches to serve vulnerable communities.

“We are extremely pleased to be at the point in the accreditation program where the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, along with many others, are successfully maintaining their five-year accreditation status through PHAB,” said PHAB President and CEO Paul Kuehnert, DNP, RN, FAAN.

The non-profit PHAB works to advance and transform public health practice by championing performance improvement, strong infrastructure, and innovation. PHAB’s accreditation program, which receives support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sets standards against which the nation’s governmental public health departments can continuously improve the quality of their services and performance.
