There’s plenty to be concerned about – but I want to share stories of resistance and resilience, too. Here are some words from Sue, Kenny and Sarifa, who want to tell you why they’re hopeful: “Even the grimmest situation seems to pass in time. In my lifetime I've seen the Berlin Wall come down, the end of South African Apartheid and the Northern Ireland peace agreement. By concerted efforts and determination, each of these terrible situations eventually resolved or improved. We can do this. We can make our country whole again.” – Sue, South London “Recently swastikas were painted outside mine and my neighbours’ houses. We came together as a community, scrubbing and getting rid of the graffiti. People on social media posted about how that behaviour is not tolerated and how it made the community stronger together. It was a positive reminder that there are still a lot of good people in society.” – Kenny, Scotland “Me and my colleague have run a disability forum since 2012. We work together as a whole family; that's how we see ourselves now, as a family. Where we were feeling socially isolated once, now we feel like a community. Muslin, Jewish, Christians, working together to bring about change for disabled people in our borough. “ – Sarifa, East London
