Dear John,
A civic education renaissance is underway.
On Wednesday, Jack Miller Center Board Chair, Michael Weiser ([link removed]) , appeared in front of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Educationt to testify on the current state of civic education.
Weiser was invited to join a panel with Ian Rowe ([link removed]) , Jed Atkins ([link removed]) , and Bryan Kennedy to discuss "America’s Founding, Civics, and Self-Government in K-12 Curricula”. In his powerful testimony ([link removed]) , he highlighted the alarming decline in civic literacy and stressed the urgent need to support teachers in restoring "curiosity and confidence" in the classroom.

Michael Weiser addresses Congress on reclaiming curiosity and confidence in civic education.
Weiser’s testimony comes at a pivotal moment as the nation grapples with growing concerns over political polarization, civic disengagement, and a decline in foundational knowledge of American history and political tradition.
The Jack Miller Center, through its partnerships with educators and civic leaders, has long been a champion of first principles civic education. Weiser’s testimony underscores the JMC’s commitment to shaping a future where educators are prepared to empower the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to be informed and engaged citizens.
With America's 250th birthday on the horizon in 2026, we have ambitious plans to turn this moment into a full-scale national movement.
As the year draws to a close, I invite you to consider making a year-end gift ([link removed]) to help propel these efforts forward. With your support, I believe we can make civic education the cause of our generation.

The Jack Miller Center is a nonpartisan educational venture to advance the work of scholars who teach and study the ideas, documents, and history we hold in common as Americans. We seek to grow the talent pipeline of university educators who teach the American political tradition, to forge new models for university-based training of K-12 civics and history teachers, and to build a diverse coalition of Americans to ignite a civic education renaissance.
